Riding 160km's to change lives

WHY I am doing this

This is about so much more than a bike ride.

Yes, I'm taking on the 160km Breakthrough T1D One Ride to raise funds for type 1 diabetes research.

But the real challenge isn't 160 kilometres on a bike.

The real challenge is living with type 1 diabetes every single day.

As someone living with type 1 diabetes myself, this cause is deeply personal. I understand firsthand the constant balancing act, the daily decisions, the sleepless nights and the responsibility that comes with managing a condition that never takes a day off. While technology and treatments have improved over the years, there is still no cure, and the burden of living with T1D remains significant.

Type 1 diabetes can affect anyone, at any age. Every day, 8 Australians receive a diagnosis that will change their lives forever.

For the more than 140,000 Australians living with T1D, there are no days off. It's a relentless 24-hour condition that demands constant attention, requiring up to 180 extra decisions every day just to remain safe and healthy.

The burden extends far beyond blood sugar levels. It affects people physically, emotionally, mentally and financially. It impacts not only those living with T1D, but also the families, partners and friends who carry the worry alongside them.

And the consequences can be devastating. Severe hypoglycaemia can be life-threatening. Longer-term complications can affect eyesight, kidney function, the nervous system and cardiovascular health.

That's why this ride matters.

Breakthrough T1D is the world's leading funder of type 1 diabetes research, driving life-changing advances that are improving lives today while working towards tomorrow's cures.

Every dollar raised helps fund research, innovation and hope.

By supporting this ride, you're not only backing me through 160km on a bike, you're helping support every person and family affected by type 1 diabetes, including mine, and contributing to the research that will bring us closer to a world without T1D.

Please support this incredible cause by making a donation today. Together, we can move closer to a future where no one has to live with type 1 diabetes.

Thank you for your generosity and support.

We are so proud of you, and your quiet determination. From the day of your diagnosis, and every day since, you just quietly do what it takes to live life on your terms and to show your boys that anything is possible.

As the parent of a T1D child, we live with the highs and lows every day. Improvements are happening such as G7 sensors and Omnipod Insulin Delivery System, but finding a cure is the ultimate goal. Wish you all the best.
